Core catcher manufactured by JSC TYAZHMASH arrived at Akkuyu NPP in Turkey

At the end of July, the core catcher arrived at the construction site of Akkuyu NPP. The product was manufactured and delivered by JSC TYAZHMASH.

Fatih Donmez, Minister for Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, at the meeting with Aleksey Likhachyov, Director General of Rosatom, noted that the core catcher designed for Akkuyu NPP allows to increase the level of nuclear safety. The process of this equipment mounting will be completed by the end of this year.

Anastasiya Zoteeva, Director General of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, declares that Akkuyu project is based on the existing experience in the sphere of construction and operation of NPPs with a similar design in Russia. Akkuyu project provides combination of active and passive systems that ensure safety of nuclear power plants under any external conditions.

Works on construction of the power unit No. 1 are being carried out according to the plan; the core catcher mounting is being prepared. All stages of construction are monitored by independent inspection bodies and nuclear regulatory agency (NDK).

Akkuyu NPP is a nuclear power plant under development in Turkey. The project is implemented on the basis of intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the sphere of Akkuyu NPP construction and operation in Turkey concluded by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Turkey. Under the agreement, the four power units will be built, each with capacity of 1,200 MW. The project is fully funded by the Russian Federation. Rosatom is a majority shareholder of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC which undertook obligations on designing, construction, maintenance, operation, and decommissioning of the plant. Construction of Akkuyu NPP is the first project in global nuclear power industry, implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate model.
