The second startup complex produced by JSC TYAZHMASH was put into operation at Ust-Khantayskaya HPP

December 27, 2016

In December 2016 the second startup complex supplied by JSC TYAZHMASH was successfully put into operation at the northernmost Ust-Khantayskaya HPP (Krasnoyarsk Territory).

Works are carried out under the agreement concluded by JSC TYAZHMASH and the largest manufacturer of nonferrous and precious metals — Nornickel. The latest has initiated reconstruction of the plant to replace outdated hydraulic units and to increase the plant capacity. Outdated Kaplan turbines will be replaced with Francis ones.

JSC TYAZHMASH was selected as a supplier due to its high design-and-manufacturing potential and ability to carry out the unique upgrading. JSC TYAZHMASH will design and install Francis turbines suited for wheel spaces of outdated Kaplan turbines.

At the stage of designing more than ten versions of runner blades have been studied. Six series of tests for various combinations of guide vanes and runner blades have been carried out.

Ust-Khantayskaya HPP is located beyond the Arctic Circle in severe conditions of permanent frost. But mechanical engineers fulfill their obligations in accordance with the schedule. The first complex was put into operation in 2015. Production of the rest six hydraulic units will be finished in 2021. After upgrading, the plant capacity will increase by 70 MW.
